In the early 20th century, students and senior leaders of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, inspired by the Holy Spirit, felt an overwhelming urge to further the spiritual life and lively fellowship of Orthodox Christian youth attending various high schools and colleges in India. In 1907, a group of determined young students formed the “Syrian Student Conference” at Balikamadom School, Tiruvalla, Kerala, conducting various conferences and leadership activities for the youth. In 1960, the organization changed its name to the “Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement” (MGOCSM) and adopted the motto “Worship. Study. Service.” Since then the MGOCSM has grown to become the oldest and most rapidly expanding Christian student organization in India with over 1,500 units worldwide.

Welcome to the Youth League, the MGOCSM of St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Church of Bensalem, PA! We are an Orthodox Christian organization determined to enhance the spiritual lives of the Orthodox youth through “worship, study, and service” within the practices and beliefs of the Orthodox Christian faith established in the Three Holy Ecumenical Councils. Our mission is to bring Orthodox Christian students of different educational institutions into one body in order to root them in the Orthodox faith and traditions and to strengthen them in spiritual life and Christian fellowship.

The current leadership positions are as follows:
President: Rev. Fr. Shibu Venad Mathai
Vice-President: Josh Maret
Secretary: Mikhaila Zacharia
Treasurer: Shalom Mammen

Youth League provides members a base to come together in fellowship in the light of Orthodoxy. It is ultimately a medium to strengthen our faith in Christ and to make a positive impact on our community. Therefore, our goals for 2016 are to UPDATE, UPGRADE, and UPLIFT the Youth League in this parish. We will UPDATE the Youth League with all respective information that is pertinent to the Youth League’s success. We will UPGRADE the Youth League for the better with more service opportunities and fellowships, especially during the summer, to ultimately ignite and sustain participation for the future. Lastly, we will UPLIFT the Youth League and the youth to become pillars and leaders of this church through being active representations of Christ with the aid of monthly Bible Studies, reflections, and continual spiritual support from our church. Let us use our talents and skills to help and love one another and fundamentally, glorify our God.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” -1 Peter 4:10

What’s Coming Up in YL

We started off the year 2016 emphasizing service in English. One main factor was to have an English Service and Bible Study one friday every month. Our first Bible Study was on February 19th, and it was a success. We invited kids from other churches in the Philadelphia area to come join us. Many kids from other churches came and said they look forward to coming again; thus we decided to keep spreading the word that our bible studies are open to the area. During these Bible studies, we hope to get other speakers to come as well.

These are the list of dates for the upcoming Friday English Services:

May 20th
June 17th
July 8th
August 19th
September 16th
